 We receive telephone calls from social workers in agencies and hospitals telling us they have newborns go home with nothing more than a car seat and a diaper. Our volunteers make it possible for us to provide a layette to those families consisting of quilts and blankets, receiving blankets, crib sheets, sleepers, gowns, caps, booties, and bibs as well as diapers, pacifiers, lotions and ointments when we have them. Since every child needs a toy, we also like to include a small stuffed animal. All items provided to these families are completely free of charge.
 Nebraska has had higher than normal fetal demise instances. The Platte Valley area in mid-Nebraska is the highest. The last thing that parents want to think about at this
devastating time is looking for burial clothing. For these smallest of God's children, the sad reality is that there is no clothing available small enough. We are able to help with this sad need. It is difficult to think about, but being able to hand stitch, with love, the only outfit these tiny babies will need is very rewarding for us. Some of these little ones have no one else to do this for them. So, these articles are made with much love for these
tiny angels.
 Preemie clothing is also in great demand. These precious little clothes are hard to find and very expensive. Parents of preemies will tell you that having something that fits to put on their child gives them so much hope and joy. These are donated to NICUs in hospitals for use there and for parents to take home. We also donate to individual families with preemies. The greatest joy that any of us has, as volunteers for Sewing For Babies, is to be able to say “Sure we can help!” God has richly blessed us, so we give back in our special way.
